Psalm: 115

Meditation

John: Jesus was nothing of not provocative. At times, like this one, Jesus seemed to be wielding a needle headed straight for an eye. Here Jesus was telling Jews (perhaps Pharisees, though the text does not specify) just who He is. In order to drive home the point, Jesus made this statement: “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am.” (v. 58) The blasphemy here is that Jesus actually used God’s name (I AM) a thing deserving of death in Jewish Law.

Gospel: John 8:47-59

New Testament: 1 Timothy 4:7-16

Old Testament: 1 Kings 8:22-40
