Psalms: 119:145-176

Meditation

2 Samuel: The revolt against David was put down but at great cost. David had given a strict command that Absalom was not to be killed – he said this in the hearing of the army. However, Joab, perhaps thinking David might spare Absalom, took it upon himself to kill the traitor even though the king’s son. David was much shaken by the news as any parent would be: “O my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you. (v. 19) This is the second cold-blooded killing committed by Joab (Abner [chap. 3] and Absalom.)

 Gospel: Mark 12:13-27

New Testament: Acts 23:23-35

Old Testament: 2 Samuel 18:19-33
