Psalm: 27

Meditation

2 Samuel: David’s sorrows begin. His first-born son, Amnon, was wickedly vile. He schemed to get his half-sister, Tamar, to attend him as he feigned illness. Amnon then raped Tamar and then threw her to the curb, as we say today. Absalom, Tamar’s full brother, sought revenge on Amnon, and as revenge is a dish best served cold, Absalom waited two years to carry it out. “But Jonadab, son of Shimeah, David’s brother said, “My lord should not think that they have killed all the princes; only Amnon is dead. This has been Absalom’s intention ever since the day Amnon raped his sister Tamar.” (v. 32)

Gospel: Mark 9:42-50
