Psalms: 41

Meditation

2 Samuel: I think Shakespeare pilfered a thought which he employs in Macbeth Act IV scene I. When the LORD encourages David against the Philistines the strategy includes listening to “the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” (v. 24) The second thing we see is doing a right thing in a wrong way. The LORD had outlined specific ways to handle the Ark of the Covenant – none of which involved a cart. See Exodus 25:10. The Kohathites of the tribe of Levi were commissioned for this service. As you see the price of disrespect is a high one.

Gospel: Mark 8:1-10

New Testament: Acts 17:16-34

Old Testament: 2 Samuel 5:22 – 6:11
