Psalm: 63, 67

Meditation

1 Samuel: Samuel has died, and he was mourned by all, especially Saul. While God had chosen Saul Himself, Saul was not gifted with leadership – he wasn’t so great in following directions either. Apparently, Saul’s weaknesses did not lead him to greater reliance on God. He was afraid, of course, of the enemy (the Philistines), but also of his own people, who, it seemed to him, were always on the verge of deserting him. He was afraid of David whom, he thought, wanted him dead. Saul may serve as an object lesson to us as what not to do in a crisis.

Gospel: Mark 5:1-20

New Testament: Acts 15:1-11

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 28:3-20
