Psalm: 105

Meditation

2 Samuel: King Saul is now dead and although David is King in Judah, he has yet to consolidate his power to include the Northern Tribes. Ish-Bosheth, son of Saul, is slated to become king in the north. The funeral elegy cited here is written by David in honor or King Saul and his son Jonathan who both perished in their battle with the Philistines on Mount Gilboa. I can see that David harbored no hatred or resentment for Saul. At this moment, David is a sterling example of what we think of as Christian love.

Gospel: Matthew 25:31-46

New Testament: Romans 12:9-21

Old Testament: 2 Samuel 1:17-27
