1 Samuel: David is pursuing his favorite pastime: being on the run from King Saul. David goes to the priest Ahimelech to fortify himself against Saul. David has said repeatedly that he would not kill King Saul as he was the LORD’s anointed (as was David himself). David plays a little fast and loose with the truth in order to get provisions from Ahimelech for his men and a weapon with which to fight. Unbeknownst to David, Doeg, a loyal servant of Saul’s catches all this and reports these developments to Saul.
