How did Pastor Nate demonstrate what God’s kindness looks like?
[Hint to parents: Here is a quick review based on Titus 3:4-7
- We are like empty cups because we didn’t want God.
- We can’t fill ourselves.
- God’s kindness is when he pours the Holy Spirit (the water) into our empty cups through Jesus (the pitcher). Jesus is how God’s kindness gets inside of us. The Holy Spirit is God’s kindness living inside of us. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to live like Jesus.
- God did this because of his mercy, not because we deserve it but because kindness is showing love to people even when they don’t deserve it.
- God keeps pouring and pouring and pouring his kindness into us. ]
Let’s find out what God wants us to do with his kindness.
The book of Titus is actually a letter from Paul to his friend Titus. Paul is giving advice to Titus on how to help people be like Jesus. Here Paul tells us how we are to treat people who don’t follow Jesus.
Read Titus 3:1-2 together.
[Hint to parents: A simple way to explain, “remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient” is that God is asking us to listen to those God has put in charge over us.]
How should we treat those outside of the church (even those who are not nice to us) according to Titus 3:1-2?
Which parts are hardest for you?
[Activity: Have the kids draw pictures of how God wants us to be kind to those who are outside of the church.]
Respond. The way we respond to God’s kindness to us is to show kindness to others. God showed kindness to us when we didn’t deserve it. We are to show kindness to those who don’t deserve it.
How can you guys listen to and show kindness to those God has put in charge of you?
How can you do kind things for people who are outside of the church?
What specific things can you do together?
How can we be sure to use kind words with others?
Share. God wants us to be kind to others so that others will see that following Jesus is a good thing and will want to follow Jesus too. Who are some people we know that we want to follow Jesus? How can we share Jesus with them by showing them love this week?
