Psalm: 130

Meditation

Acts: The sin spoken of in this passage is called “simony” in “honor” of the scoundrel who thought the gift of God could be had for a price. This is a subtle and insidious sin. (Isn’t all sin insidious?) Simon wanted a sense of power for he witnessed the power of the Holy Ghost close up and he wanted to be able to impart that gift to others – so he offered Peter money. Peter was, of course, right when he told Simon his heart was not right before Go and that he had to repent.

Gospel: Luke 23:1-12

New Testament: Acts 8:14-25

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 12:1-25
