1 Samuel: As I read about the assembled masses of the Philistines, apparently too numerous to count, I am reminded of the 12 scouts (1 from each tribe) sent to assess the Promised Land (Numbers 13). That particular breach of faith cost the Israelites 40 years’ meandering throughout the wilderness. But lack of faith is not the pivotal issue here but rather obedience. Samuel, a priest, and a prophet had told King Saul to wait but Samuel tarried too long.
