Psalm: 79

Meditation

1 Samuel: “What has been will be again; what has been done will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun.” (Eccl. 1:9) Deuteronomy 17:14-20 deftly lays out the guidelines in choosing a king. Let’s understand one thing: God chooses the king. Wearied by His people, still the LORD grants them their desire – see chapter 8 of 1 Samuel. God mostly gives us what we say we want thus the adage: “Be careful what you wish for.” This may prove disastrous for Israel in time to come.

Gospel: Luke 22:52-62

New Testament: Acts 7:44 – 8:1

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 10:17-27
