Psalm: 49

Meditation

Luke: This passage, though short, is rife with meaning. How near death was Jesus at this point. Well, the Romans and everyone else did not want to be cheated out of their “show” so they grabbed a man of Cyrene (Africa) to carry Jesus’ cross. As Jesus haltingly ambles on His personal death march, He encounters a group of women weeping for Him. As near to death as He is, He brings them comfort. The quote in verse 30 may refer to the destruction of Jerusalem (70 AD) by the Emperor Titus.

Gospel: Luke 23:26-31

New Testament: Acts 9:1-9

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 13:19 – 14:15
