1 Samuel: The Israelites, after repeated defeats against the Philistines, thought that if they brought the Ark of the Covenant to the battlefield, they would finally conquer the enemy. Remember, Hophni and Phinehas were wicked priests. The Ark of God is not a charm nor a talisman. Israel loses again (30,000 men)! The Philistines, who captured the Ark, don’t win either: the presence of the Ark inflicts tumors on them compelling the to return it to Israel.
