Samuel: Elkanah was a Levite (1 Chronicals 6:27) married to Hannah, who was, alas, barren. He also had another wife, Peninnah who had children. Something like the problems of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar. Hannah finally gives birth to a son whom she called Samuel. She then brings him to live in the Temple once he is weaned. The remainder is Hannah’s song strikingly similar to Mary’s song in Luke 1:46-56.
