Acts: Here may begin the notion of tradition in the Church. There was a vacancy among the twelve caused by Judas’ demise. Peter, the recognized spokesman, speaking through the Holy Spirit quotes Psalm 109:8 “May another take his place of leadership”.  Perhaps Jesus Himself prompted this tradition for in Luke 22:30 he assigns the 12 to judge the 12 tribes of Israel. So, the number 12 figures prominently throughout the scripture from beginning (Genesis) to end (Revelation).
