Luke: The priests and lawyers again seek to find out who gave Jesus His authority to preach and teach, heal and raise the dead. The priests don’t believe in resurrection and the lawyers’ job is to “find the loopholes” (as W.C. Fields would say). Both groups (i.e., priests & lawyers) were severely myopic when it came to the Law vs. Love. They were afraid that someone one day would come along to dismantle their whole system.
