Luke: This is a picture of people who both feel entitled and who are ungrateful. It is the Samaritan who showed gratitude – the Jews may have felt no need to say, “thank you”. Jews and Samaritans didn’t get along though both originated from the same family. After the kingdom split upon the death of Solomon, the Northern tribes went their separate ways and ultimately lost Jewish identity. It was one of them who returned to give thanks.
