Pentecost

Psalm: 118

Meditation

Pentecost ranks among the top 3 feasts in the Christian calendar. (It may surprise you to learn that Christmas didn’t make the cut). The top 3 should be Annunciation Day (March 25 when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to have a baby), Easter, and Pentecost. Pentecost (50 days after Easter) is when we remember Jesus’ fulfilled promise in sending a Comforter. It may not mean all that much to us, but it meant everything to the Apostle and 120 of their friends. That was the day they became indwelt by Jesus Himself through the Holy Spirit – it thus become the birthday of the Church.

Gospel: John 14:21-29

New Testament: 1 Corinthians 2:1-13

Old Testament: Isaiah 11:1-9
