Luke: These verses raise some serious ethical questions. What they do not say is that one can shed his responsibility to himself nor his family. What it does say is that all too often we become enmeshed with our concerns that we lose sight of the God who cares for us and loves us. Most people think that financial security will bring peace of mind – I wouldn’t count on that. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee.” (Isaiah 26:3 KJV)
