Colossians: “And I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s affliction.” (v 1:24) This is a tough one!  It “…does not imply that there is a deficiency in Christ’s atoning death…which would contradict…all the rest of Scripture.” what was ‘lacking’ in Christ’s affliction was the future suffering of all who … will experience great affliction for the sake of the gospel…: (ESV Study Bible. 2295) Our day may come yet.
