Daniel: Every king or ruler likes to think of himself as the greatest and most powerful and longest lasting; trouble is there will always and inevitably be someone greater. Such is the case here. (Bear in mind that Daniel is not written in chronological order.) The ram represents the Persians & Medes who will overrun the Babylonians (now in power) who will in turn be overrun later by Alexander the Great (the goat in our story). So, nothing on earth lasts forever. (See the book of Ecclesiastes for further proof.)
