John: The feast here is the Feast of Tabernacles (early September) which was another remembrance of the exodus from Egypt during which the Jews all lived in tents. Jesus only sought to honor the Father, which was another, though subtle signal, that He was the Messiah. “There is nothing false about him.” (v. 18b) Jesus healed on the Sabbath which was punishable by death (Exodus 31:14) but to circumcise on the Sabbath is okay so that the Law of Moses cannot be broken.
