Psalms: 122, 123

Meditation

1 Timothy: It is easy to forget that this is a personal letter to an individual until you get to verse 23, and that may be the only clue for verse 24’s return to general instruction. I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to keep the theology of the first century church. I get it: it must be kept very simple to minimize errors in transmission (by word of mouth for the most part) and look at what we have amassed over the centuries; arguments and proof-texts. For them (1st century) it was simple; “Believe on the Lord Jess Christ and you shall be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31) This is the famous “KISS” formula: Keep It Simple, stupid”.

Gospel: Mark 12:28-34

New Testament: 1 Timothy 5:17-25

Old Testament: Isaiah 65:17-25
