Psalm: 78:40-72

Meditation

2 Timothy: “But God’s word is not chained…” (v. 2:9b) It might do us well to keep in mind that books in Paul’s time were all hand written and thus very expensive. The custom in Paul’s youth was to memorize large swaths of Scripture thus one would always have access to it. We have reached a new era in history, where reading and memorizing are not chic. Ironically just a few centuries after Paul when the New Testament was canonized the written texts were, in fact, chained in monasteries.

Gospel: Mark 10:1-16

New Testament: 2 Timothy 1:15 – 2:13

Old Testament: Isaiah 59:15b-21
