Isaiah: Sometimes the Scriptures are not at clear as I would want them to be. For instance, in verse 2 “one from the east” could have referred to Nebuchadnezzar for he was yet to carry away the “captivity”, but scholars conclude that this person is, in fact, Cyrus the Great. Nebuchadnezzar as “God’s servant” sent to chastise Judah and later Cyrus was “God’s servant” to oversee the return of the Jews to their ancestral home. So each was God’s servant in his own turn.
