Mark: Strange how certain phrases “jump off the page” as I read. This is a doozy! – The demon begging Jesus “Swear to God You won’t torture me.” (v. 7) This guy is truly possessed trying to get Jesus to “swear to God…” This is a very big deal because no self-respecting Jew would conceive of such an outrageous thing. BTW – this one violates the 3rd commandment. Turns out that Jesus has no compunction not to make a promise to a demon. But rather, He allows the legion of demons to enter a herd of pigs.
