Psalm: 114

Meditation

Isaiah: The plague of idolatry is addressed (yet again!) in this section. So Israel cannot abandon her false gods. The LORD may be seen to be pleading with the Jews to give up false worship. It really is important to remember the prohibition against false worship. The bitter truth is that they (nor we for that matter) can see that what we practice is idol-worship. It is important to remember that prohibition against idol-worship is at the crux of the 2nd commandment. We live in the age of grace and we live by faith but “The Big Ten” are as weighty today as when Moses first received them. Since this theme of idol worship is so thoroughly treated throughout the Bible it would be wise to give it some heed.

Gospel: Mark 5:21-43

New Testament: Galatians 1:1-17

Old Testament: Isaiah 48:1-11
