Isaiah: In verse 1 Isaiah mentions a “strong city” and in verse 5 he speaks of a “lofty city”. Of course, the “strong city” is the city of God and anything identified as “lofty” can’t be good. This passage flows easily from present to past to future (so indicates the ESV Study Bible, page 1285). Well, just to add clarity to an already muddled image, the Holy City of Revelation 21 may settle the matter once and for all. That is the true heavenly city – unimaginable to our eyes and imagination.
