Luke: Advent covers the waning days of the Old Covenant for with the birth of Jesus comes the dawn of a New Covenant era. In truth that is the only connection I can make between this passage in Luke and the Isaiah reading which heralds the birth of the Messiah. This last day of Jesus’ life was what my father would have called “a bum’s rush”. Jesus had been on trial throughout the night into the predawn hours of the next day. Jesus, thus had to die before sunset of that day.
