In some segments of the Christian Church, today is observed as the feast of the Holy Family. In today’s reading, Joseph, espoused to Mary ascertains that he is already “with child” before they marry. Wanting to do the right thing, Joseph sought to divorce Mary quietly t spare her any undue embarrassment. However an angel appeared to him in a dream (imagine, Joseph and a heavenly dream – where have we heard that before?) telling him to take Mary as his wife for her child is of the Holy Spirit.
