Genesis: The imagery of the stairway to heaven and the ascending and descending angles was enough for Jacob to continue on his journey – God having reiterated His promise to Abraham of inheriting the land of Canaan. We come across this very imagery when Jesus encounters the cynical Nathanael at the end of John chapter 1. Jacob recognized a “Holy Place” – someplace significant. Many of us don’t hold with a view toward a “sacred space” probably because of Jesus’ meeting with the woman at the well (John 4:21-24)
