Luke: Jesus teaches that Sadducees a very important lesson here. These priests (for Sadducees tended to be priests) did not believe in life after death It is not surprising to me because throughout the Law (the first 5 books of the Bible) and the psalms speak of “cutting off’ the evil doer leaving the image that “there is no remembrance” of the dead. People get myopic in reading the Bible to much so that by the time they start a new chapter they have forgotten what they have just read. Jesus might have put this argument to rest city Exodus chapter 3 (the burning bush). “And no one dared to ask Him anymore questions.” (v. 40)
