Meditation
Luke: It seems that Jesus liked to keep the chief priests and teachers of the Law on their toes. The ask Jesus a question and He retorts with a question of His own: “John’s baptism – as it from heaven, or from men?” (v. 3.)The priests’ and teachers’ reasoning is good but it leads to a wrong conclusion. These leaders feared the people but since they (the people) represent the “great unwashed”, their leaders cannot trust them. Since the priests could only come from the family of Aaron of the tribe of Levi, they would naturally see themselves as better; after all they did not “choose” to be born to Levi.
