Zechariah: This chapter of Zechariah focuses on the shepherds of Israel. The imagery of the shepherd is important and pervasive in Scripture. The shepherds of Israel at Zechariah’s time were the priests. Here we learn the priests don’t take their responsibilities very seriously. Zechariah is crying out to these shepherds of Israel to remember their holy calling. Jesus, in John 10, points not to what is the least the shepherd can do but rather to be willing to die for the sheep as Jesus had proven by His own death some 500 years later.
Gospel: Luke 18:15-30
