Luke: When Roman generals were given a “triumph”. (A very rare celebration in Rome, but nicely depicted in Ben Hur) Said hero would be led astride a white horse much like the victorious Christ in Revelation 19:11. However a victorious Jewish king would enter Jerusalem seated on a donkey – a peaceful entrance. As the crowds cried out “Hosanna” the Pharisees urged Jesus to hush them but His response was, “If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (v. 40) See Isaiah 55 about the mountains and trees “singing and clapping hands”. (Isaiah 55:12)
