Memorize these verses as a family:
2 Timothy 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel.
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men [people] who will also be qualified to teach others.
Listen. Gospel is good news. The gospel that the Apostle Paul told has two parts to it: Jesus was raised from the dead. Jesus is part of King David’s family. What does this mean? Jesus is our King, who died for our sins and was raised from the dead. He died and rose again so that we could be forgiven, adopted into God’s family, and receive the gift of eternal life. We will live forever as God’s children in a world ruled by Jesus. Isn’t that good news?
2 Timothy is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy. Timothy was Paul’s friend. Paul was the one who taught Timothy about Jesus. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul has some special instructions for Timothy about what to do with the gospel. He wants him to tell it to others so that they can tell it to others. This is how Jesus’ good news spreads around the world.
Discussion. How did each of you heard about Jesus’ good news? Who told you? When did you start believing it? Why did you believe it? What do you think Jesus wants you to do with his good news now that you have it?
Set Goals. Make a list of people you know that you can tell about Jesus’ good news. Make a plan to pray for them and to tell them about Jesus.
