Psalm: 35
Meditation
Luke: When the 70 (or 72 depending which translation you use) returned they came rejoicing to Jesus to tell Him “even the demons submit to us in Your name.” (v. 17) Inherent in those words is a delight in the exercise of power. Power must be a true aphrodisiac for it will trap the most ardent of believers. Therefore, Jesus said to these disciples to rejoice, rather that their names were written in heaven. Here is also one of very few recorded events where Jesus expresses fullness of joy. Jesus’ closing remarks sound something like the Queen of Sheba’s parting remarks to Solomon. (1 Kings 10:6)
