Psalm: 40

Meditation

Matthew: This is not a lesson in arithmetic: what is 77 x 7? Well, that comes to 539 times. I am abundantly certain Jesus was not saying that. As Paul eloquently puts it in 1 Cor. 13:5 “It [love] keeps no record of wrongs.” The 539 times one forgives is the least I have to do for my brother. This is precisely what we need to get away from. Perhaps forgetting an injury is the toughest thing to do, but if you can abandon all your “rights” (“but that’s not fair” attitude) it may go a long way to forgetting past ills.

Gospel: Matthew 18:21-35

New Testament: 1 Cor. 12:27 – 13:13

Old Testament: Genesis 8:13-22
