Family Challenge – The Living Stone

Memorize these verses as a family:

1 Peter 2:4: As you come to him, the Living Stone — rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him — you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Listen. 1 Peter 2:4-12 tells us that the church is a very special building. It is not built with wood or stone, but with people. Jesus is THE LIVING STONE, he is the cornerstone of the church. We are living stones and together we make the church. As a church, we have a very important job. We tell the world how God saved us, so that they can worship God with us. Our job as the church is to tell the world how great a Savior he is.

Discussion. Talk about the answers to these questions: How did God save us? What did Jesus save us from? Take some time as a family to pray and tell God, “thank you.” You might also think of a song that you could sing together that thanks God for being our savior.

How can we help our church tell the world how great a Savior he is?

Set Goals. Make a plan for your family to use their gifts to help the church worship God and tell the world what a great Savior he is.  Who is one person that you know that you will share this lesson with?
