Luke: This episode in Jesus’ life hopes to teach us (and them – those Pharisees and lawyers) the difference between symptoms and disease; judging the appearance of things over their true reality. Nowhere does this passage tell us that the paralytic had faith, probably, but his friends sure did. The greatest and most immediate danger to this man was his sin which Jesus first healed and then his body. As believing as we are, like the Pharisees and Lawyers, we too, need proof thus the paralytic’s healing.
