Acts: the death of Stephen prompted a local persecution of the church. This persecution only served to strengthen and broaden the grip Christ had made in that region. As the foreign Christ-followers returned home to such far-flung locales as Cyprus, Antioch Phoenicia, Cyrene (northern Africa) the gospel was then propelled to the rest of the Roman world. Barnabas, “a good man” (v. 24) was sent to Antioch and later went to Tarsus to enjoin Paul to his ministry.
