Psalm: 38

Meditation

Job: Many, many years ago when I first undertook to read Job, I hated the prospect. As I’ve grown older, knowing this book better I’ve come to appreciate it more. Spoiler alert: the “patience of Job” has very little to do with the mind-numbing calamities he’s forced to undergo (i.e., suffer) but rather his three friends Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar and then a late arrival Elihu (beginning at chapter 37). Satan does not like Job – even hates him, and gets permission to reduce him to a boil-laden heap.

Gospel: John 6:16-27

New Testament: Acts 8:26-40

Old Testament: Job 1:1-22
