Psalm: 17

Meditation

Judges: This story of Micah (not an uncommon name in Israel but no one we “know”) is a clear example of how to try to manipulate God. Try this: set up a shrine, make for yourself a priest –what else do you need? The problem was none of this was proscribed by Scripture. Good man Micah. He steals 1,100 silver pieces from his mother, who curses the thief. He then returns it whereupon she has an idol cast from it. Then he hires a wandering Levite to be his priest. What more does he need? [The story gets very ugly further on.]

Gospel: John 5:19-29

New Testament: Acts 7:44 – 8:1

Old Testament: Judges 17:1-13
