Family Challenge: Being Still

Memorize these two verses as a family:

  • Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth
  • Isaiah 30:15a This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy one of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength …”

Activity. Have a contest to see who can be the quiet the longest. Talk about why it is hard to be quiet.

Discuss. Prayer is having a conversation with God. When you have a conversation, sometimes you talk and sometimes you listen to what the other person is saying.  When you talk to God, what kinds of things do you say? When was the last time, you were quiet and just listened to God? What kinds of things do you think he would tell us if we are quiet and still enough to listen? It is hard to be quiet and listen to God because we need to trust God in order to be patient enough to do it. But we can practice. How can we take time each day to listen to God? Come up with a plan.
