Psalms: 81, 120

Meditation

Matthew: Simon of Cyrene was pressed into service this day. He was compelled to help carry Jesus’ cross. It would be safe to say Simon was not a Roman citizen (as was Paul) which is why he could be compelled into service. Next is a scene straight from Psalm 22: casting lots for Jesus’ garments (Ps. 22:18) Finally Jesus endured his last temptation at Satan’s hand: “He saved others but He can’t save Himself! He is the King of Israel. Let Him come down now from the cross and we will believe in Him.” (v. 42) That must have been very tempting!

Gospel: Matthew 27:32-44

New Testament: Romans 16:17-27

Old Testament: Judges 2:1-5, 11-23
