Psalms: 14, 15, 21

Acts: This is the account of the coming of the promised “Comforter”. We call this Pentecost because Christians are notoriously unimaginative – this was a Jewish feast 50 (pente) days after Passover. So what? Anyway, many strange things are going on most notably that as the disciples (there may well have been more than 12 after all 120 of them were there and all received the Holy Spirit) spoke but each person heard them in his own tongue. This is the setting for the reading. Thus 3,000 were added to the church that day.

Gospel: Matthew 28:11-20

New Testament: Acts 2:22-36

Old Testament: Judges 5:19-31
