Matthew: The gospel of Matthew closes with Jesus’ resurrection. Mary Magdalene and the “other Mary” the “famous” mother of James and John go to the tomb early on the first day of the week. They are greeted by “an angel” who bore a strong resemblance to what Jesus looked like at His Transfiguration (see Matthew 17) Anyway, this angel tells them Jesus was raised and has gone ahead of them to Galilee as He had said.” To compound matters, because no one would rely on a woman’s account as an eye-witness, the Marys happen upon the risen Lord. “Go tell my disciples…” (v. 10)
Gospel: Matthew 28:1-10
New Testament: Acts 2:1-21
Old Testament: Judges 5:1-18
