Psalm: 91
Meditation
Matthew: Here Jesus faces judgment before Caiaphas the high priest. Like a prosecutor salivating at the prospect of cross-examining a defendant, the high priest finds a couple of witnesses (for by law 2 are required to convict) swearing inaccurately, if not falsely, that Jesus had claimed He would destroy the Temple and then rebuild it in three days (see John 2:18-22). Not satisfied with that and because that was not blasphemous, Caiaphas (the aforementioned high priest) asked Him, under oath, to answer one simple question: “Are you the Christ, the Son of God?” His answer, “Yes, it is as you say.” (v. 64). That was enough to convict.
