Joshua: The Gibeonites proved to be an object-lesson. They had come to Joshua declaring themselves to be from a far country (when in reality they were quite near) for they had heard how Joshua had thus far defeated and destroyed his enemies. Fearing they may be next, these Gibeonites made a treaty of peace with Joshua. The problem: Joshua never inquired of the LORD but now they had to honor this treaty so when 5 kings came against Gibeon Joshua had to fight for them.
