Psalm: 46
Meditation
Matthew: This scene opens with the declaration that Jesus was staying at the house of Simon the Leper. Picture it: “I’ll be over as Simon the Leper’s house if you need me.” Why would anyone want to be identified as “the Leper”? Clearly this is someone who had been healed by Jesus. More importantly, the expensive perfume being “wasted” on Jesus. Well that’s what the intimation is – it’s a waste of money. Even today when the local church spends a mountain of money say on an organ – that’s fine, but if the money is spent on people their “tune” changes.
